Goat meat, one of the most popular red meats globally. The meat is naturally lean and contains less saturated fat and cholesterol compared to beef or chicken. During the cooking process, the meat tends to dry out so to retain the moisture, it's better to cook it in a marinade.

But, before we start following the recipe let’s first know a little about Goat Stew.

What is Goat Stew ?

Goat Stew is a delicious recipe that combines excellent taste and nutritious goodness in a meal. It is slowly cooked with tomatoes, pepper, spices and of course goat meat, which is the star of this dish. One of the very popular Southeast Asian goat stew is also named as Tengkleng. 

Trust me, it’s a lip smacking dish.

 You don’t have to do much but just follow the process.

Like I said before, there are so many ways to prepare goat meat, however, slow and long is the best way to bring out its full flavor and make it tender. 

Now, let’s get started with the recipe.

Take a large bowl and mix the goat meat with vinegar, soy sauce and garlic, then cover it with a lid. Here, we are marinating the meat to make the Goat Stew more flavourful (to get the best results you should marinate it for at least 6-8 hours).

After that, remove the meat from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels but reserve the marinade and garlic cloves. Then, set aside the goat meat for a while. 

Heat the vegetable oil or any cooking oil that you prefer in a large pot or slow cooker over a medium heat and cook it for 10-15 minute until the meat changes its color to brown. 

Now take the chopped onion, red bell pepper and garlic cloves and cook it over medium heat until the onion looks translucent. Pour the tomato sauce and cook it in a simmer heat for about 5 minutes. 

Put the goat meat in the mixture and cook it until it is tender for 30-40 minutes. Mix the cubed potatoes, carrots , peas, and season it with salt,  black pepper and cayenne pepper. Cook it for 20-30 minutes and adjust seasonings before serving.  

Your flavorsome Goat Stew is now ready to serve. 

In general, goat meats are popular worldwide for hearty stews and soups. 

For great results you should try braising or stewing goat meat low and slow with liquid (or using a slow cooker or pressure cooker).

This recipe is similar to Filipino goat stew recipe and is also consumed in the Caribbean, African and many Nigerian Homes.
